Microsoft Software Said Bought by Russian Organizations Despite Sanctions

Software made by Microsoft (MSFT) has been acquired by state organizations and firms in Russia and Crimea despite sanctions barring US-based companies from doing business with them, Reuters reported, citing documents on the Russian state procurement database.

The report cited unnamed people involved in the transactions as saying that some of the users gave Microsoft fictitious data about their identity. It said the products were sold via third parties and that it had no evidence that Microsoft sold the products directly to entities affected by the sanctions.

Microsoft told Reuters it has been looking into the matter in recent weeks.
